When a patient has more than one insurance plan, determining who pays first is only the beginning.
Coordination of benefits can affect every part of the claim—from identifying the primary payer and submitting the secondary claim to calculating contractual adjustments and determining the patient’s correct financial responsibility. One mistake can lead to delayed payments, duplicate denials, incorrect write-offs, overpayments, or balances being billed to patients improperly.
The growing overlap between dental and medical coverage has made COB even more challenging. Dental offices may need to determine whether a service should be submitted to the patient’s medical plan, dental plan, Medicare, Medicaid, or a Medicare Advantage plan—and in what order.
This practical webinar will address important COB situations, including:
Determining the primary and secondary payer
Applying the employee-versus-dependent rule

Understanding when an individual policy may not coordinate with another plan
